Nov 12, 2018

We have two internship positions open for 2019: Communications Intern and a Botany/ecology Intern.

Communitree is looking for interns! Are you interested in conservation, in urban greening, and in connecting people with nature? Then read more about the openings that we have available!

Position 1: Communications Intern

This internship position is all about communications: from social media to e-mail, and from coordinating volunteers to keeping our partners up-to-date. We are looking for someone who is experienced using a number of online tools and applications, and who is great at personal communication. The activities involve:

  • Posting updates to our social media accounts
  • Answering e-mails from our volunteers
  • Reaching out to our volunteers to request photos, information or other details
  • Responding to people on Whatsapp and posting information to our volunteer Whatsapp groups
  • Coordinating meetups, plant pickups, deliveries of plants, or other activities
  • Writing news articles for our website, to be shared with our partners and collaborators as well as the general public
  • Editing of photos and creating other visual material to be used for our communications
  • Joining our gardening activities at least once a week

This internship position can be done from any place and we are happy for you to work from home or from any other place that works best for you. There is flexibility to set your own hours, in coordination with us. Once a week we ask you to come in and join our gardening activities while also joining our team meetings, which generally happen in the Rosebank/Mowbray/Rondebosch area. Experience in urban greening or ecology is not a requirement, but we do need you to be passionate about the environment!

We provide a transportation stipend of R1,000 per month for this internship position.

Position 2: Botany/ecology Intern

This internship position revolves around our urban greening work. We are constantly working on germinating, propagating, and planting indigenous plants, and most importantly we are helping other people to engage in this activity. We are looking for an intern who can help with these activities. The responsibilities include:

  • Taking care of the plants that we grow in our mother nursery
  • Support the training and education programmes:
    • Design workshops
    • Help with the logistics around the workshops
    • Assist the workshop leader during the workshop
    • Co-host workshops
  • Providing guidance and advice to the volunteers who have home nurseries
  • Work as a team player in a small but enthusiastic team that aims to build a stepping stone corridor with indigenous vegetation.

This is a full-time position. We provide a transportation stipend of R3,500 per month for this internship position.
