Gardening at N2 Patch

Monday Aug 06, 2018 | 11:00-12:00

During our Monday sessions we garden for an hour to work on general cleaning, weeding, and beautifying the chosen site. We focus on the Mowbray-Newlands area and rotate the sites we work at every week. Join us if you'd like to see how we work at our the public spaces!

About Gardening activities

During gardening events, we go out to a public greening site and work on general maintenance, cleaning, and upkeep of the plot. These events are key in our activities and they have a huge public impact. By keeping (often formerly abandoned) plots in good shape, the public space often transforms from an eyesore and underused space to an inviting space.

During the gardening events we often work on chores like cutting back or removing grass, cleaning up the space (littering is often an issue), removing weeds, taking care of the plants, and improving the soil. You do not need any gardening experience to join these events. The only thing that really matters is your enthusiasm to participate in public gardening! But if you do have some equipment, always feel free to bring this along. Especially useful are:

- Spades
- Cutters
- Garbage bags
- Gloves

Getting there

By bicycle: the plot is located across from the Liesbeek Parkway cycle lane. You can cross at the robots at Durban Road, and then bike north along Liesbeek Parkway - the plot will be on your left hand side just before you go under the N2.

By public transport: the site is a short walk from Mowbray train station and the Mowbray taxi rank. If you use a bus or taxi along Main Road, you can get off at the crossing with Durban Road and walk to the plot, which should take about 10 minutes.

By car: it is easiest to access Strubens Road via Durban Road. Once you are on Strubens Road, head north and take a right on Koorhoop Road. The plot is two blocks down, where the road meets Dixton Road.
