At The Patch - Bronze Mannikin. Note the speckled Crown, neck and nape. In BIRDS of South Africa - Complete Photographic Field Guide, pp404-405 Ian Sinclair and Peter Ryan depict a similar bird (photo by Neville Brickell) as a Red-backed Mannikin. However on our photographs the chestnut back as well as the black crown, nape and neck are absent.
Juvenile Bronze mannikin usually a unifonm dun brown. Photos a stage between juvenile and adult, moulting or hybrid?
